Irving Berlin wrote the
song "The Freedom Train" over the course of a single Sunday
afternoon. Within days, Bing Crosby and the Andrews Sisters had
recorded it and it was ready for release by the time the train was
ready to open to the public. Later, several other artists also recorded
the song.
Berlin generously gave
the copyright to the song and any subsequent royalties to the American
Heritage Foundation, sponsor of the Freedom Train.
