Once the Freedom Train
finished its tour the locomotive returned to the ALCO plant in Schenectady
where it was prepared for its new owner, the GM&O Railroad.
The plaques (there were
two) the men are looking at noted the engine's work on the Freedom
Train and were attached to the locomotive's exterior just above
the leading trucks.
Only four PA-1 locomotives
exist today (in various states of disrepair or restoration) -- two
are back in the United States from Mexico and two remain in Mexico.
Unfortunately, the one that pulled the Freedom Train is not among
them.
