Barry Howard's design for the interior of the American Freedom Train was to create a dynamic environment where the visitor would be immersed in sight and sound.

To that end, the design called for the extensive use of video displays, moving elements of every kind, audio commentary and music.

The American Freedom Train was not a museum. Rather it was an experience meant to inspire, stimulate and motivate the visitor to seek out and explore the history of their country long after the Bicentennial (and the train) had passed.
