The American Freedom Train by Lionel

Lionel's seven-unit deluxe steamer set came with the rare "fifth car" - car number 105 - only available in this set. The complete set included enough track to make an oval and a transformer to power it.

The box pictures a map of the AFT's route across the US.

Boxed examples of this set are the prized possessions of many AFT collectors.

This very rare printer's proof of the steamer set box is from the collection of Ed Carr.

The final model evolved as the AFT itself evolved. This paint scheme was proposed for the 4449 locomotive, but never used.
